Q: What can I do to correct my smile lines/nasolabial folds?

A: The next generation filler, RADIESSE ® , is a dermal filler that adds volume to fill in lines and wrinkles, restoring a more natural, youthful look, with the results lasting 9 to 18 months. Medical studies have shown that RADIESSE ® dermal filler is a safe and effective treatment for correcting the volume loss that creates the smile lines (nasolabial folds).

When correcting and augmenting the face with dermal filler, one must take into account if there is a loss of volume in the cheek area due to the loss of facial fat as we age or if the smile lines are created by the muscular structure of the face. If the smile lines have been created due to a loss of volume from aging, then by correcting the volume loss in the cheeks, the skin is supported with the cheek augmentation, thereby lessening the folds around the nose and mouth. This helps to soften and improve the appearance of the smile lines/nasolabial folds.

If the smile lines have been created due to the muscular structure of the face, and not because of inadequate facial fat in the cheeks, then augmentation directly into the nasolabial folds will soften the smile lines. An additional benefit, RADIESSE ® dermal filler has been found to stimulate the body to produce new collagen. RADIESSE ® dermal filler provides immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and provides long-lasting and beautiful results.

Q: What can I do about the dark circles under my eyes?

A: Dark circles are caused by several factors. One of the most common factors is the loss of volume under the eyes as we age, causing us to appear tired and worn out. RADIESSE ® dermal filler can replace this volume loss, restoring a youthful look to the eyes and face and providing a well rested look.

Q: What is the best thing I can be doing for my skin?

A: One of the most important topical applications for the skin is Vitamin A. Vitamin A comes in different formulations, the prescribed form of retinoids and the non-prescribed form of retinols. All forms of Vitamin A stimulate new cellular regeneration, increasing the thickness of the epidermal layer, which thickens the skin and provides a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Vitamin A also helps rid the skin of the outer most layer, the Stratum Corneum, which is the layer of skin cells that are dying and sloughing off. This provides for a fresher, more youthful look to the skin. Other benefits of Vitamin A include treatment for acne, blackheads and for hyperpigmentation (photodamage) caused by the sun. Topical Vitamin A is available in non-prescribed strengths. Skinceuticals Retinol .5% and Skinceutical's Retinol 1%.

The other form of Vitamin A, retinoids, are available by prescription from U Boutique and Med Spa and requires an office visit. One must exercise caution when using a topical Vitamin A-sun protection must be used at all times as the outer most layer of the skin (dead cell layer) is no longer present when using a Vitamin A. Also, women who are pregnant, trying to conceive, or are breastfeeding should not be using any form of Vitamin A as safety with use in this population has not been studied.
