Sculptra is a cosmetic injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid which is a natural substance found in the human body. Sculptra stimulates the production of new collagen to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds, add volume to thinning skin, and to restore definition to the face.
How is Sculptra different from other cosmetic injectables?
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, not a facial filler. When Sculptra microcrystals are injected into the skin, a mild inflammatory response occurs, causing white blood cells to surround the Sculptra particles. This inflammatory response jump-starts collagen production.
Sculptra is not an immediate filler. Results are seen gradually and the volumizing results of Sculptra become apparent four to six weeks after treatment.
The results of Sculptra are incredibly natural looking and long-lasting. In fact, Sculptra lasts longer than any other cosmetic injectable, up to two years or more!
For optimal results, most people will want two or more treatments, spaced four weeks apart. As a general rule, a woman in her forties will need two vials, and an additional two vials will be needed for each decade of life after that.
After two years, only small touch-ups will be required to maintain results.
There is little to no downtime after receiving a Sculptra treatment and most people are able to return immediately to their normal activities. There may be redness or swelling at the injections sites but these effects fade quickly.
