Sclerotherapy Tips and Instructions
Sclerotherapy is an FDA- approved technique to remove superficial spider and varicose veins by injecting a chemical irritant into the vein. This causes inflammation in the lining of the vein, causing the vein to stick together and thus stopping the flow of blood through the vein.
Success of Sclerotherapy treatment is a 50 to 90% improvement. Fading of varicose and spider veins is gradual, usually over a period of several months.
Sclerotherapy is safe and effective for all skin types.
Before your Sclerotherapy treatment
Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to your treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
After your Sclerotherapy treatment
Avoid strenuous exercise and long periods of standing for 48 hours after your treatment.
Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, St. John's Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week after your treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
Surgical compression pantyhose are required to be worn immediately after treatment. For the first 48 hours after your Sclerotherapy treatment, the compression hose must be worn continuously. After 48 hours, the compression hose must be worn from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed for two weeks.
