If you read last week’s post, you may remember that I mentioned maca, a Peruvian superfood that has been shown to be effective in balancing hormones, particularly estrogen.
A few months ago, after my doctor told me I had low estrogen levels, I began researching natural ways to restore balance to my hormones when I came across a product formulated by Dr. Anna Cabeca, a well-known hormone and anti-aging specialist.
I’ve been dying to tell you about this product because I absolutely love it and having balanced hormones slows down the aging process and is key to maintaining healthy, beautiful skin.
The product I found is called Mighty Maca, which is a powdered green superfood blend of maca plus 42 other beneficial ingredients that you mix into water, juice, or a smoothie.
Maca is a root vegetable that grows in central Peru and has been used for thousands of years to increase fertility, boost the immune system, and increase energy and vitality. In fact, Inca warriors used to eat maca before battles because they believed that it gave them superhuman strength.
Maca is often referred to as “natural viagra” because of its ability to strengthen the libido. Maca also revs up the metabolism, gives you a non-caffeinated boost of energy, and improves your mood.
Maca benefits the skin by decreasing inflammation, improving skin tone, and helping to clear up testosterone-related adult acne.
Recently, maca has gained popularity for promoting hormonal balance and is particularly useful in helping women with low estrogen levels.
Just a few months ago, I had the tell-tale signs of low estrogen: dry skin, fatigue, and unexplained irritability. After taking Mighty Maca every day for the past couple of months, my skin looks more hydrated, I have more stamina in my workouts, and I am usually in a ridiculously good mood (and I’m definitely not being paid to say that!).
Maca is extremely nutrient dense, containing 55 beneficial chemicals including amino acids, Vitamins B1, B2, B12, C, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc.
The other 42 ingredients in the Mighty Maca blend include broccoli and cauliflower, cruciferous vegetables that help the body detoxify, as well as spirulina, chlorella, flax, cat’s claw, and turmeric, which further aid in detoxification and the metabolism of hormones.
Mighty Maca also contains oat beta-glucan, known for its moisturizing and skin smoothing properties, and mangosteen, acerola, green tea, pomegranate extract, and resveratrol, which act as powerful antioxidants, protecting the skin from damage.
You can check out more information about Mighty Maca here. If you decide to give it a try, I would suggest taking it every other day until your body gets used to it because I had some abdominal discomfort when I first started taking it.
Dr. Anna Cabeca also suggests using Mighty Maca as a nutrient-rich superfood facial masque. Just combine a scoop of the Mighty Maca powder with enough water to form a thin paste. Massage into your skin and leave on for twenty minutes or until dry.
