Your Botox and filler treatments have finally settled and you look great. But you feel like your skin is still missing something? Maybe thereâs a pesky line in your skin that just wonât budge no matter what you do. Or you feel like your skin is lackluster and missing that “glow”. Youâve probably heard your injector recommend adding a collagen stimulating treatment like a CO2 laser but have no clue how it will benefit you. If this sounds like your journey, then youâve arrived at the right place!
CO2 laser is one of our favorite treatments because it gives the skin a nice âresetâ. CO2 resurfacing is a laser treatment that is collagen stimulating. This helps improve texture, reduce the appearance of unwanted pigmentation, erase fine lines and wrinkles, and more!
Who Is CO2 Laser Treatment For?
CO2 laser treatment is for the person who wants a more robust treatment result than what chemical peels and microneedling can provide. Each treatment is tailored to your skin and individual goals and needs. A consultation is required prior to treatment to determine if this modality is best for you and to tailor a plan that will help you achieve your skin goals.
How Does It Actually Work?
A CO2 treatment can be done in a variety of ways to achieve the same results. Here at U Med Spa, we use the CO2 laser in the fractional modality. What this means is the high energy laser light creates tiny, microscopic holes in the skin, leaving the surrounding skin intact. This triggers the body to heal the damaged tissue by creating new collagen and elastin, resulting in less wrinkles and improved skin texture.
What Is The Downtime?
The downtime post procedure will vary depending on the person and intensity level of the treatment. A good rule of thumb is to expect 7-10 days of downtime. You can expect to have redness, swelling, dryness for the first 3 days. Many patients report having a mild sunburn sensation to the treated skin for the first week. Depending on the intensity of the treatment, makeup can be worn 48-72 hours after treatment. After skin is completely healed, the new skin that has emerged will be more fragile than you are used to. Sun avoidance and an spf of 30 or higher is very important over the next 3 months.
While 7-10 days may seem like a lot of downtime, we like to think of it as just 1 week to tighter, brighter and smoother skin!
