Did you know that Broadband Light Therapy (“BBL”) is clinically proven to change the gene expression of aged skin to make them look younger?
BBL removes sun damage to slow down your skin’s aging process and even out complexion. Combining Moxi laser treatment with BBL, the treatment combo can address both tone & texture, leaving your skin brighter and smoother with minimal downtime.
Why Combine BBL Photofacial and Moxi Laser
- BBL Photofacial: Consider it the Chanel of photofacials. BBL Photofacial is the most advanced light therapy today that treats age spots, pigmentation, and redness, brightening and restoring your skinâs youthful glow
- Moxi Laser:Â Moxi is a fractionated laser treatment that enhances texture, treats melasma, and delays early signs of aging with minimal downtime. It is safe for all skin types and tones including darker skin tones
- The combination: Gentle enough for regular treatments with minimal downtime, ensuring glowing results with each session

BBL + Moxi Laser Day-to-day Recovery Process
When you combine the two treatments, the recovery timelines overlap rather than stack. BBL Photofacial brings pigment to the surface of your skin. Moxi laser resurfaces texture. Both produce visible debris on the skin at roughly the same time, so days two through five look more textured than either treatment along – but you are not adding a week to your recovery. Most people recover in about seven days.
Day of treatment
Your skin will feel warm, sensitive, and look flushed, similar to mild sun burn. That warmth typically peaks in the first several hours and settles the same day by the night. Some puffiness is normal, particularly around the eyes and anywhere with more sun damage.
You may already see treated spots looking darker and more defined by evening. That’s the BBL working – the pigment is being drawn toward the surface, not made worse.
Keep your night routine simple: gentle cleanser, whatever moisturizer we have sent you home with or any gentle moisturizer you use at home, and cool compresses if you need. No make-up, no heat (saunas), no workouts.
Day 1
Redness fades noticeably. Pigmented spots continue to darken and take on sharper edges – this is the stage people find most alarming, and it’s the clearest sign the treatment reached its targets.
Your skin may start to feel tight and slightly rough. Swelling, if you have it, usually peaks around now.
Still avoid heat: no hot showers, saunas, steam, or anything that makes you sweat.
You can start wearing tinted sunscreen if you need to cover up mild redness from the treatment and protect your skin from sun exposure.
Days 2-3
This is the textured stage, and it’s where the combination differs most from either treatment alone.
Two things happen at once. The BBL-treated spots darken to their deepest point and take on a coffee-ground appearance – grainy, slightly raised, easy to feel with a fingertip. At the same time, Moxi produces MENDs, short for microscopic epidermal necrotic debris: tiny bronze specks across the whole treated area that gives the skin a fine sandpaper texture.
Together, you skin looks bronzed and speckled rather than red. Most people describe it as looking tanned and a bit dusty. Base redness is usually down by now.
It may be very tempting, but do not exfoliate, scrub, or pick at the debris on your skin. This is the single most important part in the entire recovery process. Removing the debris before it naturally falls off on its own can cause irritation, prolong redness, and in some cases lead to lasting pigment changes.
Mineral makeup is generally fine from this point if you need it.
Days 4-5
The natural shedding of the debris begins now. Flaking usually starts around the nose and mouth where the skin moves the most, and works outward across the entire face. Coffee-ground spots begin lifting at the edges and falling away.
Expect this shedding to be uneven. Parts of your face will look cleaner while the others are still shedding. That’s normal and will even out eventually. Again, do not scrub or pick at the debris yourself.
Keep moisturing, keep your hands off, and wear mineral SPF every morning. Skin at this stage is genuinely more vulnerable to pigment changes from sun exposure.
Days 6-7
Most people are through of the bulk of the recovery process by the end of week one. The MENDs have shed, most coffee-ground spots have flaked away, and hte new skin underneath is brighter and more smooth.
Some residual dryness is common and easily managed with moisturizer. Full makeup is fine at this point.
Week 2 and beyond
Larger or deeper pigmented areas can take longer than a week to clear fully – sometimes two to three weeks, particularly on the neck and chest, which always heal more slowly than the face. Meanwhile, the Moxi laser side keeps working. Collagen stimulation continues for weeks after treatment, so texture and firmness improve gradually rather than all at once.
Hold off on retinoids, glycolic and salicylic acids, and any exfoliating product until your skin is fully settled.
When to contact your provider
Recovery timeline can differ from individual to individual based on your skin type, skin tone, and lifestyle. Call your provider if you see any of the following symptoms:
- Blistering, broken skin, or open areas
- Spreading redness, warmth, swelling or pus after the first few days
- Pain that worsens instead of improving
When in doubt, just call or text us. We would always rather hear from you and confirm that things are normal.
FAQ
How many treatments will I need?
If this is your first time receiving BBL and Moxi laser treatments, and you have pigmentation or texture concerns, we recommend starting with a series of 3 sessions initially for best results, followed by quarterly maintenance thereafter.
What areas can be treated?
We always recommend adding neck when you treat your face for all skincare treatments to ensure that both areas stay in harmony. Keep your face and neck in the same decade! Patients frequently add the Décolleté and the arms during their treatment as well.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as warm heat with minimal to moderate pain level. We apply a topical numbing cream for Moxi laser before the treatment to ensure you feel at ease throughout. If you are feeling anxious about the treatment, you can also add Pro-Nox (laughing gas) to your treatment
